Job Overview

Progress Lighting is an industry-leader in residential lighting and ceiling fan products with a focus on whole-home solutions. Key market segments include home builders, lighting showrooms, retail home centers, ecommerce, and lighting specifiers.

Based in Greenville, SC and reporting to the Cost Accounting Manager, the Cost Accountant serves as a key member of the Finance team with responsibility for various accounting and costing functions. The position applies principles of cost accounting in the development and maintenance of product cost, inventory valuation and inventory control. In addition, it helps with monthly closing activities including inventory, purchasing, and importing variances, overhead costs, outbound freight, and warehouse costs. It also helps support supply chain and warehouse teams and helps with monthly forecasts and annual planning cycle.

A Day In The Life

  • Collects data to determine costs of business activity such as finished goods purchases, import costs, and overhead costs.
  • Supports creation and maintenance of standard costs.
  • Supports month-end close activities related to inventory, variances, and other cost of goods sold items.
  • Analyzes actual costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual costs and identifying causes of variances.
  • Supports supply chain team in analyzing inbound and outbound freight expense.
  • Analyzes warehousing costs and provides support to warehouse management on spending and cost saving opportunities.
  • Analyzes supply chain overhead costs and reviews with supply chain management.
  • Assists in audit activities.
  • Provides oversight to cycle counting team.
  • Compiles relevant cost and expense information to be used in forecasting and operating budget preparation.
  • Other ad-hoc requests as necessary.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Strong PC – Excel, PowerPoint, or equivalent as well as ERP system experience.
  • Experience using financial software such as One Stream is desired
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel to our Jefferson, GA Distribution Center as needed
