Staff Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview: Provide engineering services to operations, materials, manufacturing, product design, research and development and laboratory engineering groups to optimize products and manufacturing methods for cost and operational efficiency, utilizing various engineering tools including finite element analysis, computer simulation packages, and DFMA.

This is a remote position, can sit anywhere in the US; however must be within 1 hour driving distance to a major airport.

A Day In The Life

  • Become the subject matter expert for simulation and design optimization tools including finite element analysis (FEA), generative design (GD), design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) among others.
  • Provide prompt mechanical, electrical and mold-flow simulation services to various engineering groups.
  • Optimize product design and manufacturing methods for cost and operational efficiencies.
  • Validate simulation methods through physical testing of products at Hubbell test laboratories.
  • Assist research and development groups on various initiatives including new materials, new manufacturing processes.
  • Run the DFMA and GD programs for HUS including monthly reporting, and training of new users. Provide guidance to new and less experienced users on simulations and DFMA analysis.
  • Administer documents including engineering project files, design history files, and test data records.

What will help you thrive in this role?

Required:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in mechanical design, finite element analysis, product testing, electrical research, quality control, standards engineering and/or reliability engineering roles.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate complex topics often using teleconferencing tools, presentations and speaking in front of groups.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling utilizing Autodesk products.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, domestic and international.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or greater in engineering preferred, but individuals with significant relevant experience and knowledge base with simulation and optimization methods will be considered.
