This position will be responsible for conducting research activities in developing and providing support to Growth Chamber Operations trait introgression team. The ideal candidate will combine the fundamental understanding of crop physiology, variety development and seed production. Knowledge of Growth Chamber based research operations is critical. The candidate should have experience in modern plant breeding, utilizing Molecular Assisted technologies to facilitate breeding efforts, and the design, execution, and statistical analysis of growth chamber- based experiments. The position is located at Nuseed, West Sacramento Innovation Center, California.
The Opportunity:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the advancement of biotech material through a fast-track growth chamber operations
- Perform all research activities associated with high-quality crop production in a growth chamber setting includes planting, transplanting, managing healthy plant growth, tissue sampling, pollination, harvesting, seed processing, and seed management
- Prioritize workload on daily and weekly basis to meet the plant health requirements in establishing and monitoring an optimal plant growth environments
- Coordinate work with a genotyping team including tracking and harvesting tissue samples for high-throughput genotyping
- Review molecular marker data and analysis requires according to prescribed best practices
- Develop and deploy new breeding techniques and methods. Implement data driven decision in every part of the trait introgression program
- Actively engage in team leading activities such as experiment initiation, execution, tracking and data reporting
- Manage record keeping as required by the projects, such as maintaining an inventory and records of material that pass through the growth chambers. Keep research database records up-to-date
- Improve plant quality by troubleshooting existing protocols and processes and developing new protocols or improving processes when needed
- Maintain seed inventory to support ongoing trait conversion and maintain varietal purity
- Maintain experimental parameter set up in the growth chambers on a regular basis
- Communicate effectively and regularly with multi-disciplinary peers and supervisors regarding status of projects and work activities, raise awareness of issues that could affect meeting project objectives
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license
Education and Experience:
- BS degree and demonstrated competency in Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Genetics or related areas with 2-5 years relevant industry plant breeding experience
- Hand-on experience working with plants in greenhouse setting
- Good understanding of the fundamentals of Genomic and Marker-Assisted-Breeding approaches.
- Previous experience in growth chamber and genomics selections is highly desirable
- Experience of Programming and Testing of Systems of growth chamber facility is a plus
- Ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere with strong communication skills. Inclusive working ability to work in a multidisciplinary team- based environment
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software for data analysis
Nuseed is looking for an experienced Research Technician II to join our highly collaborative and innovative team. The Research Technician II should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a fast paced greenhouse environment. The candidate should have experience in a plant breeding program or plant pathology laboratory setting. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated with a strong attention to detail, excellent communication, good organizational and time management skills.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 USD

Nuseed roles are incentive eligible and offer a robust benefit package that are not reflected in the noted salary range.
