The Piping Engineer assesses and checks for regulatory code compliance and quality of all piping engineering deliverables. The Piping Engineer carries out piping engineering tasks independently and in accordance with Hatch standards.
This is a permanent opportunity will assist in ensuring all work designed or supplied by the piping engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of mandatory health and safety standards, including any pressure piping regulation or code referred to within the required jurisdiction for the project with due consideration of relevant client engineering standards. This role will prepare design calculations and documentation, prepare reports and deliverables as required (under supervision) including progress report studies and material takeoffs, promote piping systems to achieve best project outcomes and coordinate between the piping team and other disciplines as the design evolves.
In addition, the Piping Engineer will be responsible for:
- Preparing piping specifications including piping details and field changes
- Attending piping discipline engineering meetings
- Ensuring that quality of engineering work is carried out in accordance with project/Hatch procedures and maintain technical documentation
- Preparing and maintain engineering standards
- Participating in HAZOP reviews
- Participating in the resolution of piping issues during project lifecycle, including planning phase, design, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning
- Adhere to and promote the Hatch corporate safety culture.
About You:
To be considered for this position, the following qualifications and experience are essential:
- BSc/B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Professional engineer status
- Minimum five years piping engineering experience
- Ability to achieve quality and schedule objectives
- Ability to plan and organize work
- Good understanding of systems and workflows as they relate to the piping discipline
- Thorough understanding of the Hatch Health, Safety, Environmental and Community (HSEC) policy and standards
- Good knowledge of piping codes and standards
- Good technical knowledge of piping engineering including specifications, calculations, P&ID development, line sizing, material selection, isolation requirements, valve selection and requisitioning of piping components
- Familiarity with the requirements and application of pipe stress analysis
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good knowledge of 3D data centric design systems
- Experience in the technical review of vendor drawings and supplier data.
