ABOUT PERTH OFFICE
South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

As Principal Physical Climate Risk and Resilience, you will be a key member of our Climate Change team. You will help strengthen South32's resilience to physical climate impacts and implement our climate adaptation strategy.
You will also provide technical expertise, support risk management, and work with assets and functions on adaptation and resilience planning. Your contributions will help us adapt to climate challenges while finding opportunities to create long-term value.
Reporting to the Manager Climate Change Risk and Reporting, other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Put our climate adaptation strategy into action by integrating physical climate risk management across the business, helping operations and functions assess physical climate risks and implement practical resilience measures
- Work with operations, functions and risk specialists to strengthen our approach to physical climate risks within our System of Risk Management, ensuring we follow industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Track the effectiveness of our climate initiatives, develop meaningful metrics, and stay current with global trends to keep us ahead of emerging challenges
- Provide expert input for management discussions, board meetings, and external reporting to ensure our climate adaptation efforts are clearly communicated to stakeholders
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Bring your expertise in physical climate risk assessment, including hazard identification, vulnerability assessments and risk quantification to help shape our adaptation strategy and protect our business
- Apply your knowledge of climate modelling, climate projection datasets (e.g. CMIP6), quantification and communication of uncertainty to inform business decisions and strengthen our climate resilience
- Use your knowledge of climate modelling and scenario analysis to help us make better decisions and develop effective adaptation strategies
- Build meaningful connections with industry partners and government stakeholders, identifying fresh opportunities amid climate challenges
- Showcase your gift for clear communication, collaboration and influencing abilities to explain complex climate concepts clearly and guide business decisions at all levels of the organisation
- Thrive in ambiguous situations by applying your analytical thinking and strategic approach, with experience in resources or global companies being valuable, but isn't essential
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree or similar in climate science, environmental science, , environmental engineering, or a related field.
