Dawes Motor Insurance seeks a Motor Underwriter to be an essential member of a highly skilled team. At the centre of our team is the drive to ensure that all our intermediary’s experience quality service through the delivery of professional and accurate expertise from a team that know and understand the market that we are immersed in. Each member of team focusses on risks that will maintain profitable and sustainable business practices for our agency.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage Renewals, Endorsements, and New Business opportunities to attain financial targets and set KPIs.
  • Answer general underwriting enquiries via email and over the phone in an utmost professional manner.
  • Maintain and exceed service level standards.
  • Identify Underwriting opportunities across the portfolio.
  • Perform the risk acceptance process by ensuring implementation and compliance of our underwriting strategy, risk appetite, systems, and procedures across the portfolio.
  • Adhere to underwriting guidelines and target market determination.
  • Demonstrate an excellent level of Industry knowledge.
  • Liaise with brokers and business partners at company functions and Industry events.
  • Have involvement in the Underwriter audit process
  • Underwrite motor policies and determine effective pricing/policy negotiation.
  • Create new and maintain existing relationships with key stakeholders, capital providers and broker networks.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management from time to time.

A bit about you

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of underwriting guidelines & binder requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proactive & able to work effectively with minimal instructions.
  • High levels of resilience and the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of organisational skills and the ability to deal with a large volume of work to meet set deadlines.
  • The ability to negotiate, as well as set and manage delivery expectations.
  • A strong customer service focus.
  • A willingness to learn and to use your own initiative.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of motor vehicles & motorcycles and their market is important.

A passion for all things motor is advantageous.

  • Professional qualifications – a minimum of Certification in ASIC RG146 Tier 2 in General Insurance Compliance and/or Certificate IV in General Insurance (or working towards), or comparable industry experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in Personal lines Insurance Underwriting/Broking/Motor Claims Handling
  • Strong understanding of compliance requirements in General Insurance.
  • Exceptional communication and numeracy skills.
  • Intermediate-strong Office and Excel skills.
  • Must be a team player.
