About the role

As the Station Assistant, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Customer Group.

You work alongside the Services Officer and Services Manager to manage the facilities and provide customer service at the station.

The Station Assistant's primary responsibility is to provide exceptional customer service and assist passengers throughout their journey. This includes making announcements and providing assistance with bus replacements. You work as part of a cohesive station team, and their ultimate responsibility is to ensure the safety of all customers. The Station Assistant is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of staff and customer facilities at the station.

The Station Assistant at Deer Park is a part-time position, with 40 hours per fortnight guaranteed. You will be required to work on a 4-week rotating roster, which includes early starts (4:30 AM), late finishes (2 AM), weekends, and public holidays. There are also additional opportunities to pick up extra hours.

Key Accountabilities include:

    Delivering excellent customer service and assisting customers with all aspects of their journey

      Making announcements and assisting with bus replacements

        Maintaining the presentation and cleanliness of the station, including staff and customer facilities

          Work collaboratively within the team and wider functions

            Ensure safety on and around the station, for customers, colleagues, and yourself

            About you

            Having experience in face-to-face customer service and working in an operational environment can be an advantage. It's also important to possess good situational awareness and demonstrate that safety is a top priority in the workplace.

            Ideally, previous experience in rail or transport would be preferred. However, if you have a background in hospitality, retail, supply, manufacturing, care work, or any profession that values safety equally with service, you may also be a good fit.

            Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

                Successful completion of Year 10 (minimum)

                  Victorian Driver Licence

                    Willingness & ability to travel to other stations, to provide service along the line

                      Availability for shift work & overtime

                        Previous extensive experience in a customer service and operational environment

                          Ability to work well within a team and develop a strong team culture

                            Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt where required

                              Strong safety culture

                              Successful applicants will be required to undergo pre-employment screening including, probity (police) checks, CAT 3 medical assessment, and Australian entitlement to work. Employees of V/Line are required to maintain a valid Working with Children Check Victoria (Employee) for the duration of employment.

                              This position is classified as a TRAINEE STATION STAFF ($26.3917) whilst completing a Certificate 3 in Customer Rail Operations in Melbourne, and On the Job training for 5-7 weeks. Upon successful completion of the training, this part-time position is then classified as STN/ASST C3 (33.1933) in accordance with the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2019.

                              Current employees are expected to remain in their role for a minimum of 12 months before applying to new positions within V/Line.
