Turning potential into progress at Amplitude Energy

When Emily Williams joined Amplitude Energy three years ago, she did not have a background in Accounting. What she had was curiosity, a work ethic and the confidence to say she wanted more.

She started in an administration role. During her interview, she was honest about her ambition.

“I mentioned that I would eventually like to move beyond administration and take on something more challenging,” Emily shares. “I was reassured that development and internal progression were strongly supported.”

It would have been easy for that promise to sit quietly in the background. Instead, when an opportunity opened in the Accounts team, Amplitude Energy backed her.

“They took a leap of faith,” Emily says. “They had seen my work ethic and believed I would be a good fit, even without a prior accounting background.”

That decision changed the direction of her career.

Learning in real time

Today, Emily is an Accounts Officer. She has been in the role for two years and speaks with clarity about what she enjoys most.

“My favourite part of my role is the balance between working independently and collaborating with colleagues across different teams,” she says. “I enjoy having the autonomy to manage my responsibilities, while also engaging with others to ensure smooth processes and support overall business operations.”

For Emily, numbers are more than data points. They are puzzles to solve.

“I genuinely enjoy analysing financial data. It allows me to apply both accuracy and problem solving skills in my day to day work.”

Her progression has not been accidental. It has been supported at every step. Much of her development has come from peer support and on the job learning.

“That has been invaluable in building my confidence,” she explains.

She has also taken part in external training days, online sessions and webinars to deepen her technical knowledge. One standout experience was being involved in the budgeting process alongside the Finance team.

“It gave me broader insight into financial planning and strengthened my understanding of the bigger financial picture within the business.”

It is one thing to offer learning opportunities. It is another to invite someone into meaningful work that stretches them.

That invitation signals trust.

The power of thinking differently

Energy is a sector that has historically been male dominated. Progress does not happen by accident. It happens when leaders and colleagues choose to create space, advocate for potential and recognise performance.

One of Amplitude Energy’s three Values is to think differently. Emily’s story is a practical example of this value in action.

Her move into Accounts was not based on a perfect CV. It was based on what her Managers and colleagues had observed.

“They trusted in my potential and gave me the chance to grow into the role,” she says. “Their encouragement and confidence in my abilities have played a significant part in my professional development.”

Recognition and support is often spoken about in broad terms. In reality, it can look like something simple and powerful. Recommending a woman for a role she has not held before. Inviting her into strategic conversations. Backing her when she steps outside her comfort zone.

For women looking to build long term careers, that kind of support matters.

It also creates stronger businesses. When people are given the chance to grow, organisations retain knowledge, deepen capability and build loyalty.

Proud to be part of something bigger

For Emily, the company’s partnership with WORK180 reinforces what she has experienced firsthand.

“It makes me incredibly proud. It’s important that women have access to support and transparency when applying for roles, particularly around workplace policies, benefits and career progression opportunities.”

She speaks candidly about the barriers women can face at work, especially around parental leave and returning to work.

“Being part of an organisation that is committed to equal opportunities, fair benefits and supportive policies is something I genuinely value. It reinforces that the company is serious about creating an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.”

That alignment between words and action builds trust. Not just internally, but with future employees watching from the outside.

A career that fits real life

Ambition and balance are not mutually exclusive. Emily is clear about what keeps her grounded outside work.

Living near the beach and wineries, she makes the most of her surroundings. Weekends are often filled with weddings, engagement parties and baby showers.

“I also have two dogs who definitely keep me busy and active,” she says with a smile.

On quieter nights, she and her fiancé unwind with a film.

“Having a good mix of social time, downtime at home and getting outdoors helps me maintain a healthy balance alongside my career.”

It is a reminder that career progression is not about constant hustle. It is about sustainable growth.

Hard work and belief

When asked what she is most proud of, Emily does not hesitate.

“I’m most proud of successfully transitioning from an Administration role into an Accounts position without having a prior background in Accounting,” she says. “It required a lot of hard work and a willingness to step outside of my comfort zone.”

Her story carries a simple message.

“Hard work does pay off, and trusting in your own potential can open doors to opportunities you might not have originally thought possible.”

For women considering their next move, that belief can be transformative. And when it is matched by a workplace willing to champion it, careers can take shape in ways that once felt out of reach.
