Delivering on Analytical Chemistry strategies for the TTD chemistry-London group to impact project success towards platform development and up to candidate nomination of targeted therapeutics, including antibody drug conjugates (ADCs). Develop, validate and apply assays to understand the stability of small molecules and large molecules such as proteins, ADCs and related scaffolds in relevant biological matrices. You will work closely with scientists from other subject areas including Chemistry, Bioconjugation, Bioscience team, Bioanalysis, ADME/DMPK and Safety Sciences as part of the wider drug discovery project team and will present your work regularly to peers and senior partners.

What you’ll do

  • Devise and execute on analytical chemistry strategies, managing and mentoring a team of analytical scientists to deliver platform and pipeline focused drug discovery workflow for oncology and other therapeutic areas.

  • Lead the review, approval and interpretation of data to ensure its high quality.

  • Develop, optimize and validate assays to understand the stability of small molecules, ADCs and related conjugates under serum, proteases and lysosomal fractions.

  • Deliver QC analysis of small molecules, intermediates, linker payloads, proteins, mAbs and related conjugates.

  • Establish high throughput assays and implement automation to achieve project needs.

  • Foster interdisciplinary teamwork and build strong relationships with partner lines to drive technological innovations and improve capabilities.

  • Ensure own work, and the work of others, is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards.

  • Perform other duties in line with the grade of the role.

Essential for the role

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Analytical chemistry, Biochemistry or other relevant fields.

  • Relevant degree and or biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience, with a strong track record of scientific innovation and success in advancing candidates through milestones.

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in mass spectrometry and related techniques. Hands on experience with Orbitrap, QToF or relevant MS instruments.

  • Substantial experience with assay design, optimization and validation of stability assessments of small and large molecules in biological matrices.

  • In-depth knowledge of the drug R&D process and demonstration of analytical related activities to achieve project milestones.

  • Strong track record of effective line management and talent development.

  • Track record of scientific innovation as evidenced by scientific publications, patents, and oral presentations at conferences.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, team-working and time-management skills.

  • Experience with programming such as Python, R and automation of analytical workflow is advantageous.

  • Experience with antibody drug conjugates is beneficial, but not required.
