Join our Immunology Bioscience team within the Early R&I department at AstraZeneca. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong understanding of adaptive and/or innate immunity. This lab-based position is based in Cambridge (UK) within AstraZeneca’s innovative laboratories in the Discovery Center (DISC). Here, you will follow the science to help drive innovation and advance medicine to help improve patient lives.

Accountabilities:

As a lab-based researcher, you will have significant opportunity to drive the direction of the work. Your research will focus on characterizing novel immunological pathways in health and disease to aid target validation and drug projects. You will implement drug discovery research experiments independently, communicate the results to team members, and interpret data. You will also contribute to the development of strategies for new target identification and validation.

Essential Skills/Experience:

- PhD degree in Immunology or relevant field
- Expertise in drug discovery projects in the immunology or a closely related field of biology is preferred
- Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Expertise in primary human cell culture including co-culture models, ex-vivo functional assays, expertise in multi-panel FACS and/or mass cytometry (CyTOF), including both intracellular and extracellular cell surface markers are essential.
- Strong hands-on skills in basic biochemical and molecular techniques including cell culture, quantification of mRNA (qPCR) and protein expression; ELISA, Western blot, Immunoprecipitation and sample prep for mass spectrometry; generation of knock-out and knock-in cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology

Desirable Skills/Experience:

- Knowledge of in vivo models of autoimmunity and inflammation are preferred.
- Knowledge of precision immunology strategies and related technologies is preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to critically analyse data sets
- Proven ability to run collaborative efforts and use external resources to find the most effective solutions to drug discovery problems
