In this role, you will form part of a Bioinformatics team, working at the cutting edge of research and development to create novel bioinformatics pipelines for biologics engineering, customising NGS workflows, integrating ML approaches to inform lab experiments. You will also work closely with data management, software engineering, computational modelling, and machine learning with access to industry-leading biologics R&D data across AstraZeneca.

SITE DESCRIPTION

The role is based in our new ground-breaking Discovery Centre (DISC) located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This newly purpose-built building brings together the company’s research and development activity in a pioneering strategic R&D centre and global corporate headquarters. The building has been designed with open architecture reflecting AstraZeneca’s approach to research. Open laboratories and glass walls will enable new ways of working across teams, whilst a central courtyard will put science on full display. When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. BUSINESS AREA

Join the Biologics Engineering team at AstraZeneca, where we are responsible for the discovery and optimisation of next-generation biological drug candidates across all key therapy areas. We are developing in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to address unmet medical needs. Be empowered to act fast on smart risks and keep ahead in the fast-paced Oncology field.

Essential for the role

  • Ph. D in bioinformatics or a related field; with relevant working experience

  • Experience in Illumina workflows, raw data analysis and NGS data integration and interpretation.

  • Ability to apply data analysis methods efficiently to large data sets

  • Experience with programming scientific applications

  • Ability to explore novel bioinformatic approaches to improve sensitivity and specificity of NGS based workflows.


Desirable for the role

  • Expertise in NGS workflows

  • Experienced with any of R, Python, shell scripting, Java or Rust programming languages

  • Experience with Kubernetes cluster and associated software e.g. kubeflow

  • Experience with create production quality code and software engineering techniques and practices. e.g. version control, Jira, Agile, Scrum, code reviews etc.

  • Familiarity with multiple R&D data types, especially as they relate to therapeutic area research.

  • Capability of managing multiple simultaneous projects
