We operate in a highly cross-disciplinary environment, collaborating closely with scientists across Biopharmaceutical Development and the wider AstraZeneca organisation.

Accountabilities:


As a Senior Scientist, you will support the characterization of a broad portfolio of biologics, using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques. You will identify and monitor potential critical quality attributes in support of upstream, downstream and formulation development. You will also explore new technologies/capabilities to enhance our product understanding throughout the manufacturing process. As a subject matter expert, you will be involved in driving our capability build, including proteomics and structural mass-spectrometry. You will represent Analytical Sciences at cross-functional interfaces, both locally and globally.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • PhD, MSc, BSc (or equivalent) in biochemistry, chemistry or biotechnology with a strong understanding of protein chemistry

  • Experience using LC-MS to characterize sequence variants, post-translational modification analysis and chemical modifications of biologics

  • Proven track record of working collaboratively in a forward-thinking, disruptive and cross-disciplinary/cross-functional environment

  • Experience with leading method qualification and/or tech transfer between multiple sites

  • Confidence in independently developing molecule specific methodology and evaluating new technologies

  • High-quality reporting/presentation of analytical data to non-expert audiences

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Practical experience with proteomics workflows along with processing and interpretation of proteomic data sets

  • Practical experience analyzing a range of biotherapeutic modalities, including proteins/nucleic acid/nano particles/virus capsids

  • Experience with physicochemical methods such as N-linked glycan analysis, chromatography (SEC,IEC, RP), electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE and c-IEF) to analyse therapeutic proteins

  • Experience of Biopharmaceutical Development and CMC related activities including experience supporting regulatory filings

  • Familiarity with structural MS (HDX-MS, Native-MS and XL-MS, FPOP)
