Main duties and responsibilities:

Process Simplification in advance of Systems Implementation

  • Streamline selected business processes with the dual aim of (a) enabling faster and lower cost systems implementation and (b) improving the efficiency of the underlying process and realising cost benefits in advance of systems implementation
  • Initial focus on improvement of IML Order-to-Cash processes to facilitate implementation of an alternative to the Order Management System (OMS).
  • Some of these process improvements would be dependent on changes to processes or practices within customers.

Standardisation and Continuous Improvement of other Core Operating Processes

  • Define “to-be” processes for certain core areas of our operating model over & above the areas covered in (1) above.
  • Put in place the supporting metrics to ensure continuous improvement in these processes.

Development of Continuous Improvement/ LEAN “Capability Centre”

  • Develop a community of people within the business to implement & spread process improvement methodologies such as ‘Lean’.

Programme management of key operational IT projects

  • Development of robust project plans and business cases
  • Monitoring of project delivery against plan and intervention where this deviates, working with stakeholders to take remedial action
  • Engagement with IT function to ensure accurate planning and management of Internal & External workforce and appropriate prioritisation of development backlog
  • Rigorous focus on realisation of benefits vs business case

KPI’s/Performance Measures:

  • £ Benefits realised from both Process improvement and IT project implementation.
  • Cycle time improvements for priority processes including order-taking.
  • Levels of Unbilled, Receivables & Credit notes for IML Key accounts
  • Number of core business processes documented/ redesigned.

Personal Specification:

  • Track record of successful delivery of the following:

    Implementing LEAN Methodology and/or Kaizen

    Project Management of multiple projects incl. development of plans and risk management KPI tracking.

  • Process mapping and improvement including experience of mapping tools such as ‘Visio’.
  • Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience in working within or alongside complex IT projects including development of plans and capture and management of risks.
  • Basic financial acumen including competencies building basic Excel models to estimate and record financial benefits.
  • Logistics/supply chain experience is desirable to have credibility with leaders.

Behavioural Competencies:

LEAN/ Continuous Improvement

  • Process definition and documentation including
    • Use of different software tools to record processes, swimlanes and RACIs
    • Structuring of process taxonomy into appropriate levels and maintaining consistency in those levels across the end-to-end processes
  • Workshop planning, preparation and facilitation including assessment of optimal attendee numbers and seniority and capture and synthesis of outputs
  • Experience of running LEAN exercises including use of 5 whys
  • Experience of running Continuous improvement exercises including Identify, Plan, Execute, Review
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to distil and present complex issues to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong People and Stakeholder management skills

IT Programme Management

  • Development of Project Plans including
  • Experience of Standard steps and approaches in IT projects including Design, Development, Testing and Go-live
  • Understanding of approaches to programming including Agile

Reporting Line

  • It is expected that the role would have solid line reporting into the Head of Programme Management and dotted line into the IT Director
