Located in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, our Glasgow Technology Centre is one of 2 strategic, pure technology hubs globally at JP Morgan. Our opportunities offer the chance to work on interesting challenges and projects, with what are truly cutting-edge technologies.

As an experienced member of our Software Engineering Group, we look first and foremost for people who are passionate around solving business problems through innovation and engineering practices. You'll be required to apply your depth of knowledge and expertise to all aspects of the software development lifecycle, as well as partner continuously with your many stakeholders on a daily basis to stay focused on common goals. We embrace a culture of experimentation and constantly strive for improvement and learning. You’ll work in a collaborative, trusting, thought-provoking environment—one that encourages diversity of thought and creative solutions that are in the best interests of our customers globally.

What we will offer you:

The team you will be joining is a large global team. The Glasgow team makes up a third of the employees in this space, so you will have the opportunity to grow your career on this team. The team consists of people in various different levels, some of the best developers have come from a C++ or C# background and thrived on this team. We have just completed a rewrite of our application which is now hosted in the private cloud, using kubernetes. We have a desire to learn and keep on top of new technologies and encourage innovative solutions!

The role involves:

  • Writing clean, secure, fully tested code.
  • Working with our stakeholders in the Product team to ensure requirements are development ready, ensuring UI designs exist and missing gaps are identified
  • Making architectural decisions in conjunction with our dedicated Architectural team for large parts of a client facing application
  • Proactively identifying areas of improvement, and defining solutions for these issues.
  • Troubleshooting the occasional production issue.
  • Supporting less experienced developers on the team. We have a team with various different levels of experience, helping them grow technically is important to us.

Interested? Here is what we are looking for:

  • Experience in developing applications using an Object Orientated language. Java 11 is what the team uses – but a willingness to learn Java if you come from another OO background is important
  • Or experience in developing applications using front end languages and libraries. The team uses Angular 12 but knowledge of any modern Javascript framework and a willingness to learn Angular 12 is what is important
  • Understanding of cloud architecture and infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of devops practises, including CI/CD, monitoring and deployment patterns.
  • Strong ethics as doing the right thing is important to us. We place a lot of value on thorough code reviews.
  • Attention to detail with good organisational skills. We look after a large part of the website, so keeping on top of any changes that have a deadline is a must.
  • A can do attitude! Even when something seems impossible, if it is important we try every avenue. Knowing when to escalate is key.

Nice to haves / let us support your upskilling:

  • Database and/or SQL experience is not required, but it is a skill which is useful to us
