As a Software Engineer in the Corporate Investment Bank Technology area based in Bournemouth, you will be a member of a wider global team that owns the Message Bus for Post Trade Technology, handling Settlement, Position Keeping and Asset Servicing communications between 200 applications across Securities Services and Markets with daily volumes in excess of 1.1 billion messages. You will join a growing agile feature team that is responsible for the Middleware team's Data Engineering, which is a diverse development role responsible for forward engineering of code from UML communication models, the development of a data quality framework (patented), a performance testing suite and a client onboarding portal with automated workflows and tollgates. You will work closely with technology and business colleagues to understand both functional and non-functional requirements, and then help drive the design and implementation of well tested, easily supportable, scalable and robust solutions.

You are a strong core Java developer who is familiar with Test Driven Development and working in a Continual Integration environment on a shared code base. You are passionate about writing high quality code and be familiar with tools used to measure quality, security and performance. In your role you will be working across a range of on-premise applications in addition to public cloud solutions in AWS; you will be fully supported in learning AWS and obtaining AWS certifications.

Our primary focus for 2024 is the delivery of our new Control Portal, a portal that will be used by our 200 clients to onboard, manage and certify their applications, will deliver toll-gated self-service automation to reduce manual toil on both sides and will measure the quality of data across our eco-system. The Control Portal is a front-to-back software engineering project using Java, React, Spring Boot and PostgreSQL, with components deployed in both the private cloud as well as the public cloud (AWS).

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Hands-on practical experience in application development, testing and operational stability
  • Core Java (version 11 or higher) is essential
  • Test Driven Development using Junit
  • A good understanding of data structures, algorithms & multi-threaded programming
  • A good understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Open minded with an ability to work in an agile feature team

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience with Spring Boot
  • Experience developing with React
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or another RDBMS such as Oracle or MySQL
  • Experience with Cloud native software deployment, ideally AWS
  • Behavior Driven Development using FitNesse or Cucumber
  • Configuration of Continual Integration / Continual Deployment pipelines
