Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time Marketing & Communications Contractor to enhance our engagement across a variety of audiences and channels. We have an engaged audience of over 16,000 people plus Partners, Leadership team and a Strategic Advisory Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Collaborate with the team to discuss and create new ideas for content. Develop engaging and relevant content for our website, blogs, and social media platforms.
  • Newsletter Co-ordination: Own our monthly newsletter to those on our mailing including liaising with the Women in Defence Charter, Women in Defence UK Mentoring and Women in Defence Careers for content. Manage contributions to Partner and MOD newsletters.
  • Digital Marketing & Social Media Management: Implement digital marketing strategies to strengthen our online engagement. Manage and update social media accounts with regular, engaging content using Hootsuite.
  • Website Maintenance: Manage the upkeep of our website using CraftCMS, ensuring it is current, reflective of our brand identity and full of insightful content. Assist in managing relationship with Website designers and developers.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Utilise Google Analytics and Hootsuite reporting to track the performance of digital platforms and inform future strategies.
  • Event support: Assist with invitation and registration content. Digital marketing support for in person events including conferences, webinars, in-person interviews and award ceremonies. Create plans for and manage live social media coverage where appropriate.
  • Social media visual Design: Create visually appealing graphics and layouts using Canva to support digital content. Work with design agencies/teams for bespoke projects.
  • Brand guardian: Ensure all communications are on-brand both visually and written, take pride in looking after the ‘look and feel’ of Women in Defence UK brand identity.
  • Liaison with External Contacts: Work closely with external contacts within the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and partner organisations to develop and curate content.
  • Partner Communication: Support the Women in Defence UK team with communications to partners, ensuring consistent and effective messaging.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

  • Around 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eye for design and understanding of digital best practices
  • Experience in liaising with external partners and stakeholders, preferably within the defence sector but not essential
  • Proactive, creative, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Media relations experience desirable
  • Creative thinker with confidence to voice new ideas
  • A team player willing to collaborate with different internal and external teams
  • Pro-active, organised and able to multi-task across simultaneous projects
  • Exceptional copywriting skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with: MS Office suite, email-marketing software, CMS, Analytics (e.g. Google Analytics), social media scheduling, monitoring and analytics, design (e.g. Canva, InDesign or Photoshop), event registration and management platforms (e.g. Eventbrite) and video editing (e.g. Premiere Pro - desirable but not essential)

Additional Information

Working Hours and Salary

  • Part-time position, equivalent to two days spread across the week.
  • Remote/hybrid role with some in person requirements throughout the year, which may involve travel and include evenings for key events.
  • Rate: £180 - £230 per day, depending on experience and qualifications, based on 2 days a week.
