About the Role

Base Location: Reading

Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

Within Energy Markets (EM) the Energy Demand Forecasting team work closely with the trading team, finance, retail and business energy - analysing the impact of weather, consumption trends, energy efficiency and strategic assumptions to enable EM to minimise balancing costs and optimise energy procurement costs.

In this role, your main responsibilities will include:

- The timely production of accurate long and short-term forecasts of demand for gas and electricity across GB & Ireland.

- Providing support across all the forecast areas, streamlining the forecast process, improving accuracy as well as providing value-adding analysis to our internal customers with the opportunity to specialise in a particular area.

- Looking for ways to continuously improve, creating and delivering change to the existing forecasting systems, processes and models.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role we would like you to have:

- Strong mathematical skills with a relevant degree in a numerical subject would be desirable.

- Great technical skills and experience in the analysis of data and problem solving, experience of Excel is required with Python and SQL also being desirable.

- Good communication skills.

- Commercial experience and knowledge of forecasting techniques are also desirable but not essential.

In return, Demand Forecasting offers the opportunity to develop your analytical and modelling skills, develop a detailed knowledge of the balancing and settlement mechanisms of the energy industry as well as a broad overview of how energy costs drive performance across the company.

Energy Markets (EM) is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios).
