What is the Role?

SSE's Renewables Offshore business has a fantastic opportunity for Senior Construction or Commercial Solicitors to join the team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to ground breaking offshore wind farm projects, spanning the entire spectrum from development to operation.

Elevate your legal career in a sector that is not only high profile and rapidly evolving, but also pivotal to the net-zero transition. We aim to more than treble the net capacity in operation to 13GW and escalate renewable energy output fivefold to over 50TWh in the next decade. As Senior Project Solicitor you will:

- Collaborate with legal counterparts, internal corporate functions, and business representatives to achieve their goals and objectives.

- Provide high quality, pragmatic, legal support and advice on a variety of commercial and construction matters for new offshore development projects once they become operational.

- Oversee in-house legal activities and engage and manage external legal resources from our panel firms.

- Foster and sustain excellent relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and colleagues across the legal team and other corporate functions.

- Align with our business's strategic priorities and contribute to the realisation of our core purpose, to power communities to thrive today and create a net-zero tomorrow.

What do I need?

To excel in this role, you'll be highly organised, delivery focused, and solutions driven with the ability to apply constructive challenge. You'll have a passion to join a high performing team environment where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mutual support are paramount. You'll be comfortable in providing sound advice in relation to a variety of construction and commercial enquiries, while navigating interactions with stakeholders at all levels. This opportunity is likely to appeal to Senior Solicitors with 7 years + of PQE.

To be considered for this role, we'd love you to be/have:

- Qualified Solicitor in Scotland, England and Wales, or Ireland.

- Proficiency in building robust professional relationships with clients, stakeholders, external legal counsel, and the wider legal team.

- In-depth understanding of the legal and commercial landscape in offshore renewables, renewable energy, and the broader energy market.

- Proven experience in managing commercial and construction matters, preferably within the utilities and/or energy sector, including the drafting and negotiation of contracts and associated commercial agreements.

- Proactive and pragmatic in providing legal advice, ensuring clarity, conciseness, and adherence to timescales.
