Hi! We're UW.  We’re on a mission to take the headache out of utilities by providing them all in one place. One bill for energy, broadband, mobile and insurance and a whole lot of savings!

We’re a FTSE 250 business with the spirit of a start-up – we’re aiming to double in size in the next five years.

For our customers and partners, UW just needs to work; There when you need it, and invisible when you don’t – just like flicking a switch. Our proposition is simple to our customers but for our technology teams, the behind-the-scenes complexity is what makes it so interesting. Learn more about life in our Tech teams here.

We put people first. It’s all about you..

We're on the lookout for an Engineering Manager who loves managing and leading people but also has kept their hands on in coding and developing great technology. We're open-minded about your background and experience but here's the key aspects we're looking for in our next great hire:

  • Strong technical background with a good understanding of event-based microservice architectures within an AWS, Kafkas and Golang environment;
  • Ability to understand really complex problem domains and enjoy unpicking the knots
  • Ability to work with agile practices, facilitating continuous improvement in the team
  • Excellent team management capability - you'll manage, coach and support a team to high performance. It's important you demonstrate a servant-leadership style, preferring to empower your team rather than dictate.

We work together. Your team and the people you will work with…

We work in small, fully autonomous teams that have real ownership of their products. We use the best tool for the job and constantly look for better.

This role will lead a team to work on critical technology projects in our Energy sector. This includes working on the UW "Budget Plan" to help customers manage their energy spend and transitioning our Energy Tarriffs and Billing systems inhouse from a legacy system.

We deliver progress. What you’ll do and how you will make an impact.

You'll set the direction for the team, managing productivity, progression and wellbeing for your team and helping to remove bottlenecks and clear the way for your team to deliver exceptional work.

The impact of a good Engineering Manager is for the most part measurable in the long term. You will ensure that your team have the skills, tools and supportive atmosphere to do their best work. You'll create an environment of trust and transparency, shield from distractions to create focus, and campaign for resources when needed to get the right skills and people make up (training, hiring needs).

So why pick UW?

We’re looking to double in size over the next 5 years so joining UW will accelerate your career. That’s not all, here’s some of the benefits you’ll get:

  • An industry benchmarked salary that we'll share during your first conversation.

  • Join in our success through a Share Options grant. You can also Save as you Earn.

  • Hybrid working with 2 days in the office but we’re always open to a conversation about other working arrangements.

  • Become a customer and save up to 30% on your utilities. We’ll throw in a free cashback card too so you can get even more bang for your buck!

  • A matched contribution pension scheme & life assurance up to 4 x your salary

  • Family friendly policies designed to help you and your family thrive

  • We take wellbeing seriously - As well as discounted private health insurance, you will have access to an Employee Assistance line and a free Virtual GP and regular health & wellbeing advice

  • Bring your true self to work. Join one of our belonging groups and help UW shape an even more inclusive future

  • A commitment to helping you develop and grow in your role through a holistic approach to career development
