Job Summary
The Investment Accountant II supports the accounting operations or reporting teams to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of investment activity as it relates to US GAAP and statutory requirements. Coordinates activities with the Global Investments division for resolving discrepancies or issues regarding Investment transactions and/or data. Prepares various monthly, quarterly and annual reports in order to support GAAP, statutory and management reporting requirements.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Analyzes and reconciles investment transactions on a daily basis to various data sources and subsequently updates the investment accounting sub-ledger (FAM)
- Prepares and posts the necessary monthly accounting entries to the general ledger for GAAP and statutory and prepares monthly reconciliations to ensure the investment sub-ledger matches the general ledger
- Coordinates activities with the Global Investments Division for resolving discrepancies or issues regarding investment transactions and investment data
- Prepares quarterly and annual statutory accounting schedules and exhibits
- Prepares required quarterly and annual disclosures to be included in the SEC form 10-Q and 10-K
- Prepares various reports to support management reporting, including but not limited to, investment holdings, net investment income analysis, purchase and disposal transactions
- Provides administrative and research staff support to the senior investment team members
- Performs various testing of investment transaction and systems upgrades to ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory regulations with the assistance of senior team members
- Researches and resolves complex issues that may arise as daily work is being performed, seeking assistance when needed from senior team members
- Maintains a continuous improvement culture by looking for ways to eliminate manual processes and enhance processes, and developing recommended improvement opportunities
- Independently coordinates and maintains effective working relationships with business partners, including Accounting Policy, Tax, Financial Reporting, Global Investments, and internal and external auditors
- Performs other duties as required
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's Degree accounting, finance or a related field
- Three years of professional job-related work experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Knowledge & Skills
- Good mathematical skills and the ability to interpret and apply numerical data, statistical spreadsheets and databases
- Good problem solving, critical thinking and time management skills
- Proficiency and experience using the Microsoft Office suite software, including an intermediate level of experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
- Proficiency and experience using SAP, BW, Workiva or similar software preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the accounting standards codification (ASC)
- General understanding of investment products preferred
