Summary:
Under the general direction of the Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, the Regional Vice President, Benefits Compliance, (sometimes also referred to in the industry as “Employee Benefits Attorney” or “Benefits Compliance Specialist”), will join a team of other compliance attorneys and specialists dedicated to providing exemplary benefits compliance services. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing guidance to our employee benefit consultants and their clients on compliance with a broad range of laws applicable to health and welfare plans, including ERISA, PPACA, COBRA, HIPAA, Internal Revenue Code (including Section 125), FSAs, HRAs, HSAs, FMLA and other state and federal laws. The position requires the individual to understand the relevant laws, respond in laymen’s terms to benefits compliance inquiries, communicate clearly and closely with benefit brokers and consultants and their employer clients, conduct employee benefits compliance checklist reviews, seminars and webinars, and provide internal training for our employee benefit consultants and their clients.
Note: This is a remote role posted in multiple locations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Respond to benefits compliance questions in a timely manner. For national account clients, acknowledge question and respond same day.
- Perform compliance checklist reviews for key and national account clients, including pre-checklist review and follow ups in coordination with account management teams.
- Conduct benefits compliance seminars and webinars.
- Stay abreast of the changing legislative and regulatory landscape.
- Attend internal Benefits Compliance Team meetings regularly.
- Attend internal regional and office-specific meetings (Team Lead, office-specific, etc.) regularly.
- Own or co-own regional compliance initiatives in conjunction with regional sales and account management leaders, including regular regional decisions, education, and webinar training.
- Attend regular client meetings as part of the account management team.
- Communicate and educate account teams (and clients, as relevant) on compliance initiatives and resources, including Compliance Toolkits, Publications, and NFP Connect.
- Contribute to the overall mission of the Benefits Compliance Department.
- Other duties as assigned and as needed by the Benefits Compliance team and/or the Regional Leads.

- Must have knowledge of laws and regulations governing health and welfare plans.
- Must have clear communication skills and ability to explain compliance in laymen’s terms.
- Must have excellent presentation skills.
- Must be self-motivated and a hard worker.
- Must have a strong sense of business ethics and integrity.
- Must have ability to interact well with internal and external clients.
- Must be detail oriented and thorough in completion of all assignments.
- Must have strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality in regard to work performed and access to information/data.
- Must maintain a professional and positive attitude.
Education & Experience:
- Brokerage/consultant account management experience preferred.
- Law degree not required, but attorneys will be considered.
- Prior experience with federal or state governmental regulatory body a plus.
- CEBS designation (or equivalent industry experience) a plus.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in employee benefits and/or compliance.

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 – $180,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
