To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available for September 2025 and will be between 12 - 18 months in duration.

Responsibilities

As an Inside Machinist you will typically be responsible for:

  • Manufacture, repair, and rebuild parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals such as stainless-steel alloys, aluminium, titanium, magnesium
  • Set up and operate most types of conventional and CNC machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills, bench, plain, and universal milling machines.
  • Use a variety of auxiliary machine tool attachments such as rotary vices, dividing heads, taper attachments, magnetic chucks, vertical milling heads, tapping attachments, rotary tables, and others.
  • Work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, models of parts to be made, or other specifications.

Eligibility Criteria

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Australian Citizenship
  • Minimum Cert III in Mechanical Fitter/Fitter Machinist
  • 1st Class Machining
  • 1-5 years' experience (desirable)
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
