An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available immediately and will be between 18 - 24 months in duration.

Responsibilities

As a Welder you will:

  • Disassemble, cleans and makes minor repairs to welding equipment as necessary.
  • Perform welding on rotating items for purpose of restoring items to plan dimensions such as weld build-up of shafts.
  • Lay out work from blueprints, specifications and oral instructions obtained from supervisors and welder leaders.
  • Select most effective welding process and sequence of welding to assure expeditious repairs.
  • Utilise the usage of portable equipment such as grinders, sanders, drills and other special tools manufactured for accomplishing the job.
  • Set up various propane/oxygen acetylene preheating torches as well as heat shielding arrangements to control preheating and welding temperatures during repairs
  • Be familiar with electrode requirements pertaining to storage, labelling and control of temperature of electrodes to the point of end usage.
  • Takes precautionary measures to prevent fires and observe all safety precautions.

Eligibility Criteria

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Australian Citizenship
  • Relevant Fabrication Trade Qualification is essential
  • 1-5 years' experience in welding role (desirable)
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
