The Gas & Metering team leads a safe, reliable, affordable, and sustainable regulated network, meeting the needs and expectations of our customers, community, and stakeholders today and into the future.

As the Customer & Stakeholder Lead (Gas) become the voice of our customers. In this role, you will develop strong relationships with our major gas customers, deeply understand the priorities of our communities, and lead initiatives to deliver better customer outcomes. You will also play an important role in influencing government and other stakeholders to shape the future of our gas network.

This role is perfect for a team player with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Your ability to prioritise and manage competing priorities, along with strong time and project management skills, will enable you to meet tight deadlines effectively. You will demonstrate initiative, problem-solving capability, and the ability to provide innovative solutions to help shape a cleaner energy future.

The position offers a 3/2 hybrid split between office and work-from-home, based in Southbank. Travel will be expected, on average 1-2 times monthly, to build relationships with customers and communities.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Core accountability is engagement and relationship management for AusNet’s major gas distribution network customers and communities, including understanding our major gas customers’ priorities and decarbonisation plans.
  • Support decision-making by bringing customer insights, priorities, and challenges to the discussion.
  • Support development of the long-term strategy and business improvement initiatives to drive positive customer outcomes.
  • Serve as an escalation point for the Contact Centre (central resource) within the Gas business for customer incidents and resolution.
  • Build AusNet’s profile and develop relationships in the community by attending workshops, community working groups, and meetings
  • Collaborate across other AusNet Customer, Public Affairs, and Community Engagement teams to drive efficiency and consistency.
  • Work with the Customer Communications team to develop and successfully implement communications and stakeholder engagement plans.

You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or industry-related discipline (desirable)
  • Strong experience of the energy distribution industry (electricity and/or gas). Experience with industrial decarbonisation is highly desirable but not required.
  • Significant experience and skills in managing customer, community and stakeholder engagement across multiple groups, negotiating as required.
  • Proven ability to work and multi-task under pressure, respond quickly to changing situations in complex project environments, prepare responses/narrative quickly and clearly and use personal initiative.
  • Emotional intelligence with good interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Highly articulate team player with strong communications skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with using various CRM systems and interpreting data.
  • High degree of accuracy in executing work.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to schedule work and deliver to tight deadlines.
