About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Manager to join our team in our Maritime business.
Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, you will be responsible for providing strategic internal and external communications advice, planning and execution to support the delivery of BAE Systems Australia's company and communication strategy for the build of the Hunter Class frigates, Australia's largest surface warship program. The position-holder will work closely with all areas of the business, to provide advice, leadership and assistance in the execution of communications programs.
This is a 12-month fixed term role and the location of the role can be based in Adelaide, Canberra or Melbourne. This role will suit you if you are looking to strategically develop your career and gain or build on your Defence experience.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, with options of working a 9-day fortnight and/or hybrid working.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of BAE Systems Australia's communication plans, aligned with company and business unit strategies, to support delivery of business objectives and protect and build company reputation both internally and externally.
  • Provide high-level communications advice and analysis to senior leaders, their teams, and wider employees on internal and external communication opportunities, risks and issues.
  • Take a lead role in shaping and interpreting relevant market research and communications best practices and establish yourself as a trusted advisor to the business.
  • Develop creative, compelling and engaging content for a variety of traditional and digital internal and external communication channels, including publishing strategies to maximise impact and deliver on objectives.
  • Develop media plans, write media releases and support media engagement.
  • Develop and manage issues and risks plans, including key messages and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage strategic program milestone communications across internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrate a high-level of leadership, fostering a team culture of high energy delivery and continuous improvement
  • Mentor and coach other team members, acting as a 2IC for the Senior Communications Manager

About YOU

  • Significant experience in a communications role in a major corporate, manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience in managing and leading communications professionals
  • Strong writing skills, across a range of traditional and digital platforms for different audiences and a variety of purposes
  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver in an evolving, changing and fast paced environment
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic communications plans that build engagement, brand awareness and manage reputation
  • Experience in providing high-level communications advice to senior leaders
  • An understanding of Government Relations and/or the Defence industry would be desirable
