Superintendent - Operational Readiness | Carrapateena
About the Role:
Located 472 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, South Australia, Carrapateena is part of our Minerals Australia operations, within the Copper South Australia province. The mine is located on the traditional land of the Kokatha people. Carrapateena produces copper concentrate and is one of the largest mining projects in South Australia in the last decade.

Reporting to the Manager Operational Readiness, you will be leading an empowered and high-performing team. The Superintendent Operational Readiness play a pivotal role in ensuring that assets developed and delivered through projects are operable, reliable and maintainable post-handover. Successful delivery of Operational Readiness deliverables will enable Carrapateena achieve its targets in safety, productivity and cost.
This position will be based in Carrapateena, with FIFO options from Adelaide or Port Augusta at a 5/2/4/3 roster.
In This Role You Will:
- Oversee the scope, development and delivery of Operational Readiness project deliverables from identification to completion.
- Manage stakeholders to achieve key project milestones, to enable effective handover of assets.
- Coach the team in understanding of the operation's systems, activities, risk handover and key processes, terminology, and workflow.
- Manage the relationship between Project, Operational and Functional representatives to ensure the successful integration of projects into operation.
- Identify opportunities and manage improvement initiatives to lift performance across the operation.
- Actively lead the use of the BHP Operating System (BOS) tools and principles to manage how the team operates and coach team members on continuous improvement.
About You:
Ideally, you have relevant industry experience in mining, or projects. Where this experience has enabled you to develop a deep understanding of the link between Definition, Management and Integration framework pillars of Operational Readiness.
Skills and experience that will serve you well in this role include:
- Strong leadership shadow in safety & culture (lead by example) through actively leading Field Leadership/ Time in Field activities.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to influence and manage relationships across a diverse stakeholder group involving Operational and Functional Teams
- Demonstrated ability to apply your analytical and problem-solving skills and experience to overcome complex barriers.
- Strong desire to coach and build capability in their own team and others.
- Organisational skills for coordination and management of teams and projects; previous experience in Operational Readiness work would advantageous.
- Experience working at Brownfield operations to implement Operational Readiness and/or Change Management Processes
