Contracts Manager
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to be an integral part of the Infrastructure Service Eastern Region leadership team. The role will oversee asphalt production, asphalt laying, spray seal, bitumen blending, airport/road maintenance and minor civil business across NSW with revenues in excess of $500M.
You'll be Accountable for
This opportunity will see you accountable for managing and leading all commercial (contractual and procurement) and project control aspects of a major project, ensuring key obligations and objectives are met and complied with at a project and organisational level.
Reporting to the Regional Commercial and Finance Manager, responsibilities include:
- Managing the commercial, procurement, and project controls function within an integrated project delivery team
- Owning and taking accountability for a senior leadership role in the project
- Reviewing tenders with main contractors/clients and advising the business on commercial and contractual risk.
- Setting up commercial processes on projects, including setting up the procurement strategy and claims processes.
- Reviewing, negotiating and resolving complex claims and disputes - including liaising with internal and external stakeholders on strategy and progress.
- Advising Project Managers on project control, variations and commercial considerations of managing projects.
- Proactively responding to changes in client stakeholder needs and expectations and developing collaborative relationships formed on trust
- Proactively responding to changes in the market, including changes in regulatory and statutory frameworks and advising internal stakeholders on those changes and challenges, including liaising with the legal function on any appropriate changes to the internal governance and risk framework.
What you'll bring to the table
You will have the ability to build strong relationships with key client and internal stakeholders whilst working collaboratively across a diverse and complex major project environment. You will be resilient, adaptable and someone who is comfortable making decisions and taking the initiative. Key to your success will be your leadership ability to bring people together, build and foster strong working relationships built on trust and by proactively managing commercial issues in a diplomatic and professional manner.
- A relevant Degree in law, quantity surveying, construction management, engineering or a related discipline
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial activities in major construction projects
- Experience within a Tier 1 contracting environment
- Experience with joint venture enterprises will be an advantage, but is not essential
- Commercial acumen coupled with an acute ability for proactive risk mitigation
- Very good knowledge and practical experience in the application of commercial and contract law
- Sound knowledge of project controls
- Ability to apply various techniques to seek constructive outcomes to contract negotiations, including ability to influence others and defend commercial positions
- Comprehensive awareness of the relationship between head contracts and subcontracts, including a sound understanding of guarantees, warranties, insurances and bonds
