Data Engineer
About this opportunity
We are looking for an inspiring leader who is passionate about managing large databases, transforming them into data marts. Reporting to the Team Manager, Data and Integration, a typical week in this role might look like/this role involves:
- Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
- Ingest, transform, and deploy large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing DMP for greater scalability, performance etc.
- Coordinate service requests as assigned from the Service Management process
- Undertake incident and problem management as assigned
About you
Ideally you will have:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a comparable technical data engineer role.
- Business intelligence skills to conceptualise and assist the business in understanding the data available and how the data can be analysed and interpreted to produce business value.
- Expert level SQL skills and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
- Hands-on 'enterprise' experience with Azure Data Factory and Data Bricks including implementing complex data pipelines within best practice frameworks, at scale.
- Implement the strategic plan and design, develop, adapt and maintain data warehouse architecture and relational databases.
- Hands-on experience in evolving data for bronze, silver and gold layer in data bricks and exposing the gold layer to Synapse for reporting.
- Design data structures (including data storage, data ingestion, analytics layers, data output/input files) on a variety of technological solutions.
- Maintain data integrity, availability and auditability.
- Exposure to continuous integration and continuous deployment for databases and data-related artefacts e.g. Azure DevOps.
- Exposure to Business Intelligence tools e.g. Power BI, Tableau.
- Demonstrated experience in building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures, and data sets in MS Azure.
- Hands-on experience with Extract, Load and Transform (ELT) and Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) for large datasets (Terabytes).
- Proven experience with Data Cleaning, Enrichment and Data Quality related activities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to trace issues and find solutions including identify opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills to ensure effective communication with all levels of the business.
