Introduction to role:

Are you ready to be instrumental in delivering against AstraZeneca’s ambition to engage with patient advocacy groups (PAGs) in research and development (R&D) to transform patient outcomes? We are seeking a Director, Patient Advocacy BioPharmaceuticals R&D who will focus on AstraZeneca’s BioPharmaceuticals unit. This role is pivotal in developing and delivering a framework for patient advocacy group engagement that enables patient communities’ experiences, perspectives, needs and priorities to be relevantly incorporated into R&D.

Accountabilities:

As the Director, you will develop a framework for patient advocacy group engagement in BioPharma R&D. You will demonstrate this framework to scale and drive increasing value to BioPharma R&D and delivery of pipeline. You will work with various teams to define governance, standard operating procedures, mentorship and training patient advocacy in BioPharma R&D. You will also play a key role in developing and enabling standard methodology involvement of PAGs related to clinical trial recruitment.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Significant experience working with PAGs whether through work for the pharma industry and/or working within a PAG

  • Experience leading multiple long-term, collaborative relationships with Global, Regional and local level PAGs, including those sitting within larger organisations

  • Significant understanding of pharma industry R&D and experience working with large pharma organisations

  • Understanding of external trends in patient focused drug development and patient-relevant research

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Strong organisational, presentation and facilitation skills

  • An understanding of compliance and industry code-of-conducts, as relate to engagement and partnerships with PAGs

  • Ability to navigate sophisticated and matrixed organisations and act as both a strategic counsellor and strong individual contributor

  • Politically astute, with an ability to horizon scan for opportunities and challenges
