Locomotive Fleet Controller

Freightliner are looking for a Locomotive Fleet Controller based out their Leeds Vehicle Maintenance Facility. Reporting to the Locomotive Fleet Manager, the role will be responsible for co-ordinating and providing a focus for mainline locomotive incidents including breakdown and recovery management, liaising with colleagues on site and ops control, rendering assistance where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with operations control and the relevant drivers’ helpline, assisting in the speedy resolution of problems with traction and rolling stock equipment where delays are being incurred
  • Develop relationships with the maintenance depots and mobile teams to achieve maximum efficiency and to ensure the maintenance plan is delivered
  • Produce, implement and monitor the plan ensuring workload matches agreed depot capacity whilst complying with Freightliner M&O policy
  • Ensure that any changes to planned locomotive assignments or releases are communicated and appropriate actions are in place to minimise the impact to the business of the amendments
  • Manage locomotive pools to ensure availability is maintained to meet the requirements of the business
  • Monitor reported in-service defects for locomotives ensuring repairs are managed to return vehicles to service efficiently. This will require identifying resources to attend locomotives for repair in the field
  • Actively manage, monitor and report progress of all maintenance campaigns including Special Checks and Modifications ensuring the plan is delivered
  • Taking an active role in the reporting of safety critical defects and incident management / follow-up, including the acknowledgement and processing of NIR’s
  • Ensure maintenance events are managed to prevent peaks in workload
  • Coordinate and report on the day-to-day fleet availability
  • Provide information to senior management on accidents, derailments, and other serious incidents as required

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ experience of Traction & Rolling Stock maintenance or engineering environment knowledge of material control, expediting, negotiation and logistics
  • Engineering qualification, preferably to ONC standard in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Commitment to safe working practices
