A vacancy has arisen for an ERTMS Project Engineer within Freightliner who will work as a part of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Project Team. • Working with industry stakeholders to help identify, and support the introduction of, any efficiencies or potential improvements encountered throughout the rollout process.
  • Supporting the design scrutiny of the onboard designs, including in-house testing of locomotives, detailed analysis of electrical and pneumatic diagrams, modification and testing procedures, structural calculations, and safety compliance.
  • Inputting into the review and development of new and existing Freightliner policies, standards and procedures to reflect the introduction of ERTMS.
  • Working with the business to introduce the additional physical and operational depot requirements as defined by the ETCS maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Producing concise progress reports, and appropriately raise engineering risks and issues to be formally raised to Senior Engineering Management.
  • Ensuring Freightliner’s day-to-day operations are not jeopardised by the introduction of ERTMS and help identify opportunities for improvements during this transition.
  • Representing Freightliner in wider freight industry ERTMS development workshops.

Requirements:

  • This role requires a high level of motivation with a flexible attitude and the ability to work under pressure.
  • A proven background in the development and introduction of ETCS onboard systems.

  • A good understanding of legislative requirements (in particular RIR, ROGS and Railway Group Standards) is required for this role.
  • The successful candidate will be ideally degree qualified or working towards this qualification.

This role requires frequent domestic travel to all Freightliner sites, which will require overnight stays away from home.
