About the Role

Base Location: Perth, Glasgow or Edinburgh

Salary: £80,000 - £95,000 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Reporting to the Head of Tax, the role of the Corporation Tax Senior Manager is to manage the Group’s corporation tax affairs, including three direct reports, and to ensure tax matters are appropriately considered during investment decisions across the group.

The Corporation Tax Senior Manager manages SSE’s UK corporate tax compliance affairs through maintaining processes and systems to ensure SSE meets their UK corporate tax compliance obligations at all times, and developing those systems and processes as the group evolves. It is also the Corporation Tax Senior Manager’s role to ensure the technical accuracy of all tax returns submitted by SSE, by way of a robust review process.

As SSE continues to expand overseas, the Corporation Tax Senior Manager will work with SSE’s European Tax Manager to ensure that procedures are in place such that the Group continues to meet their corporate tax filing obligations in those overseas countries. This will include consideration of transfer pricing and withholding tax relevant to those overseas activities.

M&A activity and the investment of funds by SSE into capital assets potentially results in corporate tax risks and liabilities arising to the Group. It is the role of the Corporation Tax Senior Manager to ensure that those risks are managed, and liabilities mitigated, through working with SSE’s Corporate Finance and Legal departments to ensure tax is appropriately factored into investment decisions. The Corporate Tax Senior Manager also considers tax planning opportunities that may be available to the Group.

The Corporation Tax Senior Manager sits on the Tax and Treasury Steering Committee, which is responsible for monitoring SSE’s tax and treasury affairs and making decisions or recommendations on tax and treasury matters.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Qualified to at least Chartered Accountant and / or Chartered Tax Adviser level, with at least 5 years post-qualifying tax experience

- Proven and solid experience working in a senior tax role, in either public practice (Big 4 firm) or a large company

- Significant experience in dealing with complex corporate tax matters, particularly in relation to capital allowances and interest deductibility.

- Significant experience of advising on corporate tax strategy for large businesses, including the strategic management of tax rates and tax risk mitigation on M&A activity.

- Excellent staff management and development skills with a proven track record of developing a high-performing team.
