About the Role
Base Location: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth or Thurso
Salary: £45,400 - £79,700 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSENT is seeking a Project Manager to initially deliver a new 275/220kV substation, Dounreay West, and connection to the National Grid at Dounreay. This substation is due to commence construction in summer 2024 and complete early 2028 and forms a key part of the Orkney-Caithness 220kV Link project being constructed to provide the island of Orkney with a transmission link connection to the mainland UK grid.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing the safe, effective and efficient running of projects to ensure they are executed to cost, schedule and quality, founded on project excellence principles and complying with SSE Governance and other procedures as applicable.
- Promoting safety with a passion on their projects and for ensuring that all potentially unsafe situations, accidents, and incidents on project sites are fully investigated and that remedial actions identified are appropriate and implemented.
- Ensuring the use of recognised project management processes, reporting, methods, techniques and tools, including the application of SSE's internal governance processes as required.
- Ensuring all commercial aspects of delivery including contract negotiation, contract awards, and contract management are conducted effectively and any disputes are escalated as appropriate for resolution.
- Establishing a coherent and achievable delivery strategy for the project including realistic programming, a clear procurement strategy, an achievable land and consent strategy, and the necessary resources and budget that will be required to deliver.
What do I need?
- To be a natural or developed leader with a broad understanding of project management methodology and practice.
- Strong engineering and construction knowledge including safety and CDM regulations.
- Experience of personally being responsible for the delivery of large capital projects.
- A well-developed understanding of the tendering process for the purchasing and engagement of suppliers including multi-disciplinary contracts.
- Experience of accurately controlling cost forecasting.
