About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, and Reading

Salary: £74,600 - £112,000 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The Head of IT Commercial and Portfolio Cost Management will lead the IT Cost and Portfolio Finance Management office. They will be accountable for running and continually improving the services delivered across the whole of the IT organisation. This is a critical and senior role within Group Technology Services.

- You'll be accountable for ensuring the whole IT business operates efficiently, benchmarks well, and costs are optimised and transparent.

- You'll also be accountable for ensuring commercial opportunities from technology spend are identified and implemented. In this role you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference to the 'bottom line' of IT and help demonstrate the value technology brings to the SSE Group.

- The role holder will work collaboratively with senior IT leaders, Finance, and business stakeholders to define, communicate, implement, and measure cost management strategies, controls (and systems) and spend optimisation plans. The outcomes of these strategies will input into the IT strategic planning and budgeting process, which will be reviewed by the Group Exec.

- This role sits on the leadership team in our Infrastructure and Platforms Team which is responsible for implementing leading edge platforms, the technology that colleagues use day to day and enterprise level operational processes including optimising the commercial performance of the IT business as a whole.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Considerable experience of leading an IT cost management function and acting as the key engagement point for functional leads and Business Units on IT service costs.

- Demonstrable experience of defining, communicating, implementing, and measuring cost management plans that have improved the bottom line of IT. You should also have significant experience in establishing and executing cost and cloud optimisation (eg finops) strategies.

- Extensive experience in implementing cost management and transparency software (eg Apptio or similar) across the IT enterprise with all stakeholders (IT, business and finance) to embed this.

- An understanding of how to bring a robust cost management and optimisation mindset to the organisation, with experience to support. You will also have experience in establishing cost controls and governance to assure the IT spend is aligned to business outcomes.

- Led an organisation through the transition to an agile funding framework and bringing together the Finance, Business stakeholders to demonstrate the value delivered from technology. You will also have experience of partnering with CIOs, Business and Finance Directors, as you will responsible for ensuring the inputs to the Group IT budget process underpin the IT and BU Strategies.
