Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

What is the Role?

As a Control Room Engineer at SSE Renewables, based in our Onshore Control Centre in Perth, Scotland, you'll be responsible for real-time operational control and asset intervention management of our Onshore Wind, Solar and Battery Storage fleet, focused mostly on our High Voltage and Low Voltage Electrical Apparatus.

As an experienced operator and System Controller in our critical 24/7 Control Centre, your focus will be to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our generating Plant/Apparatus and associated High Voltage Electrical infrastructure. You will have a direct influence on safety, asset integrity, safe execution of site operations, maximising generation and ensuring the best possible plant availability, whilst ensuring contractual and regulatory compliance.

Some of your main accountabilities will include:

- Fleet monitoring in real-time, responding appropriately to High Voltage and Plant/Apparatus changes and alarms.

- Operating Plant/Apparatus in line with regulations, safety rules, Safe Systems of Work, contracts, and company procedures. Including direct operation and issue of safety documents to field-based Engineers.

- Liaising with System Operators, Transmission Operators and Distribution Network Operators to issue/receive/respond to instructions and safely perform operations across boundaries.

- Ensuring timely and effective disclosure of asset availability, enabling maximum value from our energy portfolio whilst maintaining Energy Market Integrity and Transparency.

As this is a shift position there will be a requirement to work to a rota system, therefore, you should be flexible, located within 45 minutes commuting by car, and able to commit to a structured shift pattern contributing to 24-hour full year cover. More details around the rota and shift allowance can be provided upon request.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have:

- Experience within a control room environment and/or as an Electrical Field Engineer, having held responsibilities aligned with those detailed above.

- Experience of Electro-mechanical generating Plant/Apparatus, ideally within the Energy sector.

- Practical experience and strong knowledge of industry safety rules such as High Voltage rulesets and Wind Turbine Safety Rules.

- Strong IT and communication skills. Proficient in operating multiple software platforms including SCADA systems. Also, an aptitude to learn new systems promptly is essential.

- Ability to adapt to changing workloads positively without compromising key responsibilities, to be flexible, highly motivated and have a genuine passion for the industry.
