About the Role

Base Location: Portsmouth

Salary: £58,630 - £68,098 + shift allowance of £14,047 + skills shortage allowance of 15% of base salary (when fully authorised) and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

As an EHV Control Engineer, you will work as part of the team of control engineers that are responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' (SSEN) distribution networks 24/7, 365 days a year in line with the Electricity Distribution Standard Licence conditions, the Distribution Code and the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations (ESQCR). Your duties will include:

  • Ensuring that all SSEN rules and procedures are followed to foster a positive SSEN Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) culture, and identify any opportunities for improvement.
  • The real time management of SEPD's Critical National Infrastructure to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of the system.
  • Work as part of the Control Team to support others in analysis of the network to identify where interventions are required and support their resolution across the voltage ranges.
  • Alongside the EHV shift leader, control the SSEN network in southern England at all voltages from 22kV to 132kV during normal working hours and out of hours, provide cover for the SSEN network at all HV voltages up to 132kV.
  • Be a point of contact for National Grid in critical transmission network events, implementing load shedding and Electricity System Restoration (formerly Blackstart) procedures when required.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • EHV operational experience.
  • An HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • Ability to solve complex problems under pressure.
  • You will be required to travel so it's essential that you have a drivers licence.
  • Candidates for this role will be required to obtain vetting to SC level through UK Government. The criteria normally includes 5 years UK residency, further information can be found here: United Kingdom Security Vetting: Applicant - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

For applicants without previous control engineer experience, a full training package can be offered for those with suitable EHV operational experience.
