About the role:

We currently have an opportunity for a Paralegal (3 days per week) available within our Australia specialist Contract Review team. This team assists our corporate counsel with reviewing tender documents and contracts. We are ideally seeking someone with previous experience in a legal, commercial, contracts environment or other legal experience [construction or engineering would be a bonus!] who can:

a. Review consultancy agreements and identify key clauses for negotiation;

b. Liaise with the operations with respect to negotiating key clauses;

c. Deal with general contract queries from operations.

There will also be the opportunity to get involved with assisting corporate counsel with claims and disputes as well as implementing process improvements to ensure an efficient and “fit for purpose” contract review function.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Completion of contract reviews, against existing company guidelines, to mitigate any potential legal risk to Stantec.

  • Undertake legal research for the APAC Risk Management team.

  • Assist with review of project correspondence on claims, preparation of chronologies and claims reports

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Be keen to learn and curious about the meaning and effect of contract clauses

  • Be well organised and be someone who is comfortable with taking ownership of all tasks while managing deadlines that constantly change.

  • Have strong drafting skills and attention to detail when reviewing and assisting with legal documents.

  • Have strong communication skills with a positive and proactive attitude.

  • Enjoy working in a close team environment, having a warm and friendly approach.

  • Prior law firm, in-house experience or experience in a contract management or review role will be highly regarded.
