Sourcing and Contract Associate - Procurement

Global Supply Management (GSM) is responsible for helping American Express maximize the purchasing power of over $9B of global supplier spend. We provide strategic consultation to the business and provide end to end procurement services. We maximize the purchasing power of American Express to drive the best value from our supplier base which then frees up investment capacity. GSM is responsible for managing our supplier strategy with our business partners, identifying and on-boarding new suppliers, realizing significant cost saves and revenue generation opportunities, and the execution of contracts in line with company policies. We create an optimal user experience for our Amex colleagues and suppliers.

As a Sourcing and Contract Associate at American Express, you’ll be responsible for delivering the most effective strategy for achieving maximum value for American Express with our supply base, through the sourcing and contracting process.

You’ll be responsible for the development and execution of sourcing strategies and events to support the needs of our business partners, and for the negotiation and execution of appropriate contract terms - working in partnership with internal stakeholders including General Counsel's Office (Legal), and Third-Party Lifecycle Management (Third Party Risk).

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Reporting to one of the UK Contract Managers, you’ll be accountable for the cost-effective procurement of, and contract execution for, a wide range of products and services - whilst achieving or exceeding business requirements.
  • Partnering with the Category Management team to implement Category strategies including the development and execution of sourcing activities (Request for Information, Request for Proposal).
  • Driving value and competitive advantage to our business partners through effective supplier negotiations.
  • Reviewing and identifying supplier risk, working with Third Party Risk Management teams and business stakeholders to support strong supplier governance.
  • Managing the execution of contracts in line with required policies, standards, and processes.
  • Identifying opportunities to add value to the business through supply market analysis, and utilising procurement best practices and tools. Creating and presenting a compelling business case for change to the business stakeholders.
  • Driving results cross-functionally, and across business units, that have a major impact on American Express’ revenue and profitability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Commercial acumen, with strong problem-solving skills and an analytical approach.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and a team player.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to drive results and prioritize work activities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced and fluid business environment.
  • Interpersonal skills to work across a wide range of teams, and build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to influence others with a collaborative, inclusive and engaging style; with a practical approach to delivering successful, collaborative outcomes to support evolving business needs.
  • Some experience working in a Supplier Management, Procurement or Contract Management role would be advantageous, but not essential.
