Freightliner Heavy Haul Ltd are looking for a Stores and Production Assistant to assist the Stores and Facility Manager in their day to day duties at our locomotive and wagon maintenance depot located next to Ipswich train station.

The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out day to day stores activities, loading and unloading deliveries via forklift truck and carrying out minor facility maintenance activities and repairs. An enthusiastic and can-do attitude is essential with the ideal candidate having experience in a manual labour or stores environment. This position in the past has also lead to promotion opportunities within the team and is a potential route into wagon/loco maintenance.

Responsibilities whilst working in the role will include:

  • Be a Safety leader - ensure you, your colleagues, contractors and others work safely at all times.

  • Assist the Material & Facility Manager in operating the stores by managing goods inwards and storing materials correctly, raising requisitions, preparation of material to ship for overhaul, loading / unloading vehicles / stock counting / issuing of material / raising orders / expediting orders.

  • Assist with the distribution of spares and materials to their relevant locations across the VMF and Felixstowe

  • Ensure the keeping of accurate records of stock levels and materials held and to carry out audit and stock taking checks in accordance with company policy.

  • Develop and maintain visual management process in line with lean practises.

  • Liaise with the Production Department with regards to the status of material deliveries and the return of repairable material from the shop floor

  • Carry out minor facility maintenance as per the planned maintenance plan for the depot as directed by the Materials and Facility Manager

  • Carry out other facility maintenance duties as directed by management

Requirements:

  • Experience within the following areas preferred: Stores Person / Logistics / general maintenance

  • Be able to work independently, be a self-starter with planning and organisational skills.

  • Must be IT Literate

  • Must have a UK driving licence

  • Will be required to hold Personal Track Safety Certificate – Training will be provided

  • Must hold or be able to hold a fork lift truck licence – Training can be provided.

The successful applicant should be safety conscious and have a flexible approach to working routines.
